About Lenox:

Since the early 1900's Lenox has held fame as a beautiful resort village tucked away in the wooded Berhshire Hills. Early accounts call it one of the prettiest inland towns that even a European visitor would call a gem among the mountains!

Today, the historic village of Lenox still retains it's old-world, exotic charm. Lenox's historical city center is a short drive off Route 7/20, protecting us from the rush and clatter of constant traffic. Situated in a small, hillside dip, the few blocks of this small historical center are easily traversed by foot, helping it retain that small village charm. The tourist is well advised to find a place to park, and walk through town to readily discover the quality shops and small eateries available.

A vibrant strip of businesses has grown up along Route 7/20, just above Historic Lenox, in support of the small town's tourist industry. This stip of businesses holds several motels, restaurants, a small mall, modern fast-food restaurants and quality Inns.

Location:

Lenox is less than 140 miles from both New York City and Boston coming west on the Massachusetts Turnpike. The town is only a short 10-minute drive from this interstate making it both easily accessible, and yet hidden from view in the lush New England forest. Lenox can be reached from the Boston area in about 2 1/2 hours, and from the New York metropolitan area in about 3 hours.

Flying into the Lenox area usually accomplished through the Albany NY airport (less than an hour away), or the Bradley Internation Airport in Hartford Connecticut (about 1 and 1/2 hour drive). Amtrak trains regularly station in nearby Pittsfield (seven miles, located at (DEPOT ST. BTW NORTH & CENTER STS.), and two interestate bus lines serve the area: Bonanza and Peter Pan.

Lenox Living:

The 2000 census found Lenox to have a year-round population of around 5,000, and a summer population of nearly 35.000. This burgeoning summer population makes the area an interesting and prosperous place to live, and also supplies a quiet, meditation existence in the winter. Population density in the area is only 243 people per square mile!

Lenox is located in Berkshire County of western Massachusetts and is part of the Pittsfield Massachusetts Metropolital Statistical Area. The official area of Lenox also includes the villages of New Lenox, and Lenoxdale.

As a arts and culture mecca, Lenox is the site of Tanglewood Music Center and the summer home of the Boston Symphony Orchestra.

One of the most striking features of living in Lenox is the numerous large mansion estates, many of which have been turned into tourist attractions and/or schools and businesses. For over a hundred years the Lenox area has attracted the rich and famous for summer vacations.
